Fire Injury, Death and Prevention in the Home




Through a series of government funded programs, most people now know a good deal about fire safety and prevention. In fact, the phrase "stop, drop and roll" is now part of the American lexicon. However, despite all efforts to educate residents about fire hazards, fires still a serious threat to Americans.

Deaths from fires and burns are the fifth leading cause of unintentional injury deaths in the U.S. and they are the third leading cause of fatal home injury. The United States also remains ranked seventh among 25 developed countries in fire deaths, despite the country's efforts to alert its citizens from fire and related hazards.

Most people who die of fire related deaths die from smoke inhalation rather than burns. This could explain the high level of deaths as most people now to avoid the fire burns, but does not realize it is essential not smoke inhalation. People should avoid the vicinity of the great fire of deadly gases, the lungs, failure of the smoke and permanent scarring of the lungs.

the leading cause of fires in homes in the United States is smoking. Smokers should only smoke outside and always dispose of cigarettes in proper containers to prevent smoldering of flight. Other causes of fires in homes are:


A cooking appliances that are left, or improperly cleaned and updated


O candles are left burning and unattended. Candles are especially dangerous when children are living in the house


A Matches and lighters are left around the house


A damaged electrical appliances that can cause electrical arcing and fires


To prevent fires, each house should be equipped with a number of smoke alarms on each level and home fire escape plan should be designed and placed so that each member of the House is aware of what to do in case of fire.
